Settled in 1865 on the site of an Osage village and trading post, it took its name in 1867 from Oswego, New York, where many of the settlers came from. The town sits on the Neosho River, where US-160 meets US-59. Riverside Park is home to the Labette County Fairgrounds and the Oswego Community Center, and the Oswego Historical Society runs a local history museum.
